How to Order Prints
René Théberge Photography strives to make the best possible prints. We work with a local fine art printer that specializes in producing the highest quality prints possible. Each print is individually created to reflect your choice of print medium and paper quality.
All prints start with a high-resolution professional scan of the original film. With a color-calibrated computer, each scan is then worked on using the digital equivalent of traditional darkroom processes (i.e. dodging, burning, etc.) to obtain the best possible color, contrast and sharpness in order to match the vibrant shades and hues of the original transparency. The image is then profiled for the printer and paper of choice, and printed using the most advanced printing technologies available today.
Since fine art prints are generally not a casual purchase, we would be happy to speak with you about the choices available to you as listed below or about prints on alternative media, such as watercolor paper, cotton art canvas, or other materials. Please contact us.
The images presented on the website are greatly reduced in quality for ease of downloading and are not completely representative of the sharpness, color and depth of the actual photograph. In addition, due to computer monitor differences, there may be color and lightness variations between the image you see on this website and the print.
Our Guarantee
We want you to be happy and satisfied with the print you have ordered. We have a 100%, "no questions asked" refund policy. If for any reason your print does not meet your expectations, simply return it for a full refund (minus shipping charges). We will also replace at no charge any print that has been damaged in transit. We also guarantee that our prints won't fade for your lifetime, and will replace at no charge any prints which have faded.
Print Options
We are currently offering two kinds of digital prints: Pigmented Giclee (Inkjet) prints and Digital Laser continuous tone prints.
The Giclee or inkjet prints are made with a printer that sprays ink onto paper using pigmented inks instead of dyes, which gives our prints a lifetime of 60+ years as opposed to 10 to 25 years for the best dye-based ink jet prints. These prints are available on a variety of different types of archival paper. Unless you specify a type of paper, we will choose the one we believe best suits a particular image.
The Digital Laser prints are made with a printer that that exposes photographic paper to red, green, and blue lasers. This produces much sharper enlargements than traditional chemical-based photography. These prints have an expected lifetime of 60+ years before any fading occurs. This is 2 to 3 times longer than traditional Ilfochrome or Kodak RC based prints.
Prints generally have a glossy or matte finish (unless you specify watercolor, etc.) A glossy finish tends to give an image more saturated colors, whereas a matte finish tends to reduce glare and look more "artsy." If you can't decide or don't specify a finish preference, we will use gloss.
There is no right or wrong choice, nor is one “better” than the other. It is simply a matter of personal taste.
Paper and image sizes usually differ and may not match the same aspect ratio. Whatever paper size you choose, the image will be enlarged as necessary so that the long dimension fills the page.
Shipping and Delivery Time
Since each print is individually made on order, it takes 5 - 7 business days to produce your print and prepare it for shipping. Unless otherwise specified (and at additional cost), all orders are shipped through the US Postal Service via first class priority mail. All shipments are insured. Depending on where you live, delivery takes between 2 - 7 days. Express orders are possible, but we'll have to pass on you the extra fees charged by our lab and/or Fedex.
With the exceptions mentioned above, all handling and shipping charges are included in the cost of the print.
Sales Tax
Massachusetts residents must pay an additional 5% sales tax.
